The Webbed Suit is a suit players may equip for Peter Parker in Marvel's Spider-Man and Marvel's Spider-Man 2. In the first game, it was added for free as part of the 1.13 update and does not have an associated suit power. In the sequel, it requires crafting at Level 33 and does not have any suit styles due to being a movie suit.
Characteristics[]
The suit's overall design is based primarily on the Classic Suit, but the red portions of the suit are lined with raised silver webbing pattern and the eyes are triangular shape. Additionally, the red spider symbol on the back of the suit is a realistic spider instead of a stylized circular symbol like the one on the Classic Suit and the other variants based off of it. The red sections of the suit are also colored in a much stronger shade of red as compared to the other variations of the Classic Suit. And unlike most suits, this suit doesn't have the shutter eyes, staying true to its appearance in the film trilogy.
In Marvel's Spider-Man 2, the suit returns with an identical model, but with altered textures and shaders to more closely resemble its cinematic counterpart.
Behind The Scenes[]
Despite high fan demand for the suit from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, it was not included in the game's original release, nor the following DLC updates, The City That Never Sleeps. Having expected it to appear in a DLC installment, many fans began to tweet Insomniac Games asking about the suit. In response to one fan on Twitter, Insomniac said "Listening doesn’t mean we always will do what people tell us to. We hear you. Hearing doesn’t mean we always act or follow."[1]
Following this, and the revelation that the final The City That Never Sleeps installment "Silver Lining" did not include the suit, fans of the trilogy began to further harass the developers.[2][3][4] This led Community Director James Stevenson to respond on Twitter, stating that "Passion is not an excuse for harassment", and that paying for the game "does not entitle you to be a jerk".[5]
The Webbed Suit was announced on December 20, 2018, with an accompanying image taken in game.[6] Insomniac stated that the suit had been in development for a long time prior to release,[7] and James Stevenson stated that the team "never stopped listening".[8]
Original appearance[]
The Webbed Suit is inspired by the costume worn by Tobey Maguire in the Spider-Man film trilogy directed by Sam Raimi. While there were technically three versions of this costume in the films released before its appearance in the first game, the design appears to be specifically based on the iteration from Spider-Man 3 (2007).
A fourth iteration of this suit would later appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Spider-Man: No Way Home, again worn by Tobey Maguire as he returns to reprise his role as the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.
