Pax in Bello is the last main mission in Marvel's Spider-Man. Defeated by Doctor Octopus and having only barely recovered, Spider-Man takes Mary Jane Watson's advice to use his brains to find a way to defeat Otto, since he helped design the neural interface.

Accessing the lab at this point is the last chance players have to upgrade their suit and abilities until the end of the story. In this mission, players will be locked wearing Anti-Ock Suit and its associated suit power. When the game ends, the player will go back to the suit they wore prior to starting the mission.

Story[]

On the way to the lab at Octavius Industries, Silver Sable calls to let Spider-Man know she is leaving the city, having doubts as to her chosen life, but that her soldiers will remain behind. With no time left, Mary Jane informs via phone call that May Parker’s condition is worsening because of being infected by Devil's Breath. Even worse, Yuriko Watanabe and most of the police officers are infected by Devil's Breath, Yuri staying with her mother, who is also infected.

Once in the lab, Peter creates a suit designed specifically to defeat Doctor Octopus: the Anti-Ock Suit. After suiting up, an incoming news alert lets him know where Octopus has kidnapped Norman and climbed into the tower. There, Doctor Octopus climbs up the Oscorp's tower, attempting to force the Mayor into admitting his failings. When Norman refuses, Octopus drops him. Spider-Man manages to catch Norman in time, allowing him to flee before approaching Octopus on the roof. He makes one last-ditch effort to dissuade Otto but he fails, leading them to fight.

After Peter rips out Otto's neural interface, Otto reveals that he knew Spider-Man was Peter all along. The two fight, and the tower is ripped free from the roof to send them both tumbling over at the edge. The two fight on the side of the tower. When Octopus stabs him with an arm, Spider-Man pulls the arm in closer, taking advantage of the moment to rip the interface free again.

Otto falls, and Spider-Man follows to retrieve the antiserum. They crash into the side of the tower and into a room, where Otto is unable to move. Otto first accuses Peter of betrayal, but Peter responds that Otto's willpower and conscience made him the hero that he wanted to be. Though Otto then attempts to convince Spider-Man that his actions were all the result of the interface, Spider-Man takes the antiserum and turns away, letting the authorities take him in.

Walkthrough[]

Entering the lab is the last chance to upgrade gear and abilities before the final boss battle (although they can still be upgraded and side missions can still be completed after the fact). Once this is done, a cutscene leads into the final battle.

Doctor Octopus has a ranged attack he can perform with his arms; players are clued-in on when this will happen when he begins to pull one of them back. The arms can be used in tandem to slam the ground. He also performs a leap attack and can grab Spider-Man. Players will need to be mindful about the on-screen prompt to free themselves. Webbing works against his arms, and the suit allows for refills of gadgets. There are some objects that can be thrown, but those run out quickly. As the fight progresses, Octopus will start throwing chunks of the building. These can be caught and thrown back, but players have to react quickly in order to do so.

The next phase begins when Octopus climbs the tower and causes it to explode. The entire roof on the tower then becomes dangerous for players, who must keep moving and remain airborne. The tower chunks fall, and players need to catch at least one to throw it back to stun Octopus. They then must charge in and knock him from the tower so the roof will be safe again. Once more up the tower he will go, and when players stun him this time, Spider-Man is able to rip out the neural interface.

The next section is a battle on the side of the building. In this, only dodges and punches are available, and dodges are crucial as Spider-Man's health is not visible. Dealing enough damage to Octopus will complete the boss battle, leading to a cutscene and the end of the main story.

Epilogue[]

After the Devil's Breath Anti-Serum has been secured, Morgan Michaels informs Spider-Man that the only portion of the vaccine is only enough for one usage, and mass producing them takes few hours a day to finish. This cause Spider-Man left with one choice between saving a dying May Parker, or save everyone. Peter visits May before learning that she knew his secret identity as Spider-Man for quite some time. A dying May tell him how proud she was, and how proud Ben would be, of him. Ultimately, a reluctant Peter left with no other choice but to let May die in her deathbed, which she accepted, while spending her last moments reassuring him that it was the right thing to do.

The next day, after the mass production of Devil's Breath vaccines has been finalized, with the help from Tri-Corp, both Miles and his mother, Rio helps Michaels vaccinate the people of New York, then attending May's funeral, where she is laid to rest beside Ben's grave. Meanwhile, the Sable Troops puts an arrested Otto in jail at The Raft.

Three months later, while looking for a new job, Peter reconcile with Mary Jane Watson, now an associate editor of Daily Bugle, and both starting to date again.

Post-Credits

As Peter temporarily stayed at Miles' apartment, while waiting for his new place to be ready for about a week. Just as Miles reveals to Peter that he recently got a super power from a spider bite which Mary Jane unknowingly brought from Osborn family's apartment at the same night May died three months ago, Peter reveals himself as Spider-Man to Miles, in return.

Meanwhile, as Oscorp's stocks plummets because of its involvement with Devil's Breath is what led to Martin Li and Otto's downfall into super villains to get revenge on Norman Osborn, Norman returns to his apartment's secret lab where his genetically altered spider-people escaped to Mary Jane and bit Miles three months ago. There, he opens a containment tank which contains his son, Harry, who is in a coma and bonded to the Venom symbiote to keep his illness he inherited from his mother Emily in check. A remorse Norman vows to find a proper cure for Harry, just as the symbiote begins to move by itself.
