The Marvel's Spider-Man series is a video game franchise created by Insomniac Games in collaboration with Marvel Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It is based on the Marvel Comics superhero, Spider-Man, featuring characters from the Marvel Universe.
The franchise primarily consists of video games released for PlayStation consoles and Microsoft Windows, and has been expanded by tie-in media such as comic books and novels, all of which taking place in Earth-1048. The video games are open world action adventure games in which the player primarily controls Peter Parker / Spider-Man & Miles Morales / Spider-Man II, as well as their respective allies. The stories see them battle a variety of villains from the Marvel Universe including the Sinister Six, the Underground, Roxxon and Venom, all while they help the residents of New York City and struggle to deal with the complications of their civilian lives. The gameplay draws from preceding video games based on the Spider-Man character, in addition to prior games developed by Insomniac Games.
Marvel's Wolverine, a standalone PlayStation 5 game inspired by the X-Men comics and starring one of its members, Wolverine, was announced at the same time as the second Spider-Man game in September 2021. Despite there being no obvious references to the Spider-Man game series in its reveal, it was confirmed they are a part of the same universe.[1]
