Focus is a gameplay mechanic in the Marvel's Spider-Man series. It is a gauge that is built by successfully landing melee attacks and dodges, and builds quicker by performing combos. As the Spider-Men's Focus increases, the damage dealt by attacks also increases. Focus can also be expended to heal Spider-Men using ; Marvel's Spider-Man 2 requires a full bar of Focus to heal whereas prior games require any level of Focus.
In the first game, Focus bars are unlocked upon leveling up, with the second Focus bar being unlocked at level 10. In Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Focus bars are instead obtained throughout the story, and in Marvel's Spider-Man 2, they can be purchased through Skill tree upgrades.
With a full Focus gauge, Spider-Man can perform a Finisher on enemies by pressing + against an enemy. This can make battles easier by rapidly taking out certain targets, and is best used against more powerful foes, such as brutes and enemies with riot shields. For brutes, finishers can only be used on them with two full Focus gauges. In many cases, Finishers are required as bonus objectives in citywide activities.
The Skill Tree also grants abilities that improve the rate Focus builds, and allow more Finishers to be performed.
In Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, the Focus gauge allows Miles to heal or perform Venom Power attacks at the cost of one Focus bar, or three in the case of Mega Venom Blast. In the tutorial, Miles has a simple healing gauge that he can only expend to heal before unlocking Venom attacks. Finishers are instead built up by building up combos. Miles can build up a Finisher by landing fifteen hits on enemies uninterrupted. His Skill Tree enables him to bank up to three Finishers; subsequent Finishers require ten hits.
