Emily Marilyn Osborn (née Lyman) is a character mentioned throughout the Marvel's Spider-Man series. The wife of Norman Osborn and the mother of Harry Osborn, Emily was a good-natured woman who had a close relationship with her family, particularly her son.
While she was alive, Emily played a role in building of Oscorp's Research Stations around New York City that were responsible for maintaining public health and safety,[a] as her "pet projects". Years later, Harry founded the Emily-May Foundation, in honor of her and Peter Parker's aunt, May Parker.
History[]
Emily Osborn had a close relationship with Norman and Harry. Harry referred to her as the "prettiest mom at Midtown". Mary Jane Watson noted being jealous at the closeness of them due to her difficult relationship with her own father in comparison.[5]
With Oscorp, Emily worked on projects in research stations for New York's environment and public health. One of her earliest projects that she never finished was a bacteria that could dissolve plastic in the oceans.[3] She also invested into the city's steam heating as an environmentally friendly alternative to fossil fuels,[4] and built a station to try to prevent steam pipe explosions to keep them safe by monitoring pressure.[6] Other projects included tracking GPS chips installed on birds and wildlife to monitor the environment (something Norman also approved of as it would improve Oscorp's GPS technology),[7] and other projects to improve air quality[8][9] and marine life.[10][a]
At some point, Emily Osborn fell sick,[5] leading Norman Osborn to work on the secret GR-27, designed to cure any genetic disease, funding it in spite of the immense risks it posed.[11] It was not developed in time to cure Emily, and her passing had a great effect on the Osborns.[5] GR-27 continued to be developed for Harry's sake, as he too fell ill to a genetic disease.
Harry asked Peter Parker to finish projects at his and Emily's research stations while he was out, fearing they would be shut down if they could not prove their value.[12] Later, when Harry was out of stasis, he named his foundation the "Emily-May Foundation", named in his intention to honor Emily's dream to "heal the world". The foundation similarly worked on environmental sustainability projects similar to those of her research stations. Venom manipulated Harry by giving him visions of Emily urging him to merge with Venom.[13]

Annotations[]
- ↑ 1.0 1.1 Not all of the Oscorp Research Stations around the city were Emily's, as Harry describes the cell tower station as his pet project[1] while another lab was used for military technology.[2] Given that her first project was to clean the oceans[3] and her interest in steam heating for environmental reasons,[4] it is likely that projects focused on this and public health were her design while Harry and Norman were responsible for the rest.
