Original appearance[]

In Marvel Comics, Cindy Moon, otherwise known by her vigilante alias Silk, was created by Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos, debuting in The Amazing Spider-Man (2014-15) #1 (April 2014). A student who was present at the infamous science exhibit demonstrating applications of radioactive rays, she was bitten by the exact same irradiated spider that previously bit 15-year old Peter Parker, bestowing upon him the superhuman abilities he would harness to become Spider-Man.

Despite similarly acquiring abilities of her own, Cindy was additionally capable of spinning organic webs, differentiating her from Parker's reliance on mechanical web shooters for similar tasks. Initially unable to control her powers, the Moon family was approached by Ezekiel Sims, who trained Cindy for six years on mastering her new abilities.

Immediately afterwards, Moon would be locked up by Sims to protect her from the arrival of Morlun and the Inheritors, multiversal beings who were determined to kill all individuals posessing a mystical link to the Web of Life and Destiny, namely other Spider-People like herself. Upon being freed by Peter as Spider-Man seven years later, Moon would discover her family had moved away in her absence. Determined to find answers as to her family's whereabouts while also using her powers to help her community, Moon produces a makeshift costume out of her organic webs and assumes the 'Silk' identity.
